Frequently asked questions & Fees

Fees

We believe in being upfront about the cost of care so you can make informed decisions about your support. Fees are payable at the time of your appointment, and Medicare rebates can be processed for you on the spot.

Frequently asked questions

What services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of allied health services, including Psychology, Individual Counselling and Psychotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Family Therapy, Equine Facilitated Therapy, EMDR Therapy, Support Mentoring, and Group Programs. Our services can be combined to create a personalised network of support around you. Visit our website for full details on all our services: https://www.therapywell.com.au/services.

Do I need a referral?

No — you can book directly with us without a referral, in which case the full session fee applies. If you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan or other eligible referral from your GP or psychiatrist. Your GP can prepare this in a standard appointment, and we are happy to guide you through the process.

How do Medicare rebates work?

We provide services under the Australian Government's Better Access initiative. With a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you can claim rebates on up to 10 sessions per calendar year, for both in-person and telehealth appointments. Eating Disorder Treatment Plans provide up to 40 rebateable sessions per calendar year, and Chronic Disease Management plans up to 5 allied health sessions per calendar year. We process your rebate for you at the time of your session. The rebate amounts for each provider type are listed under the fee details above.

How do I book, and is a deposit required?

Contact us through the website using the "get in touch" button, call us on 07 3521 4034, or browse our team page to find a clinician who feels like the right fit. Tell us a little about what is bringing you to therapy and we will match you with the clinician we believe can best support you. A $160 deposit is required to secure your initial psychology or speech pathology appointment, and is applied toward your session fee.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointment times are in high demand, and late cancellations affect both our clinicians and other clients waiting for support. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us at least two clear business days' notice. Cancellations with less notice, or non-attendance, incur the full session fee. Please note that cancellation fees cannot be claimed through Medicare. If you are unwell but able to attend, we are happy to convert your appointment to telehealth.

Can I use my private health insurance?

Depending on your level of extras cover, you may be able to claim a portion of your session fee through your private health fund. Cover varies between funds and policies, so we encourage you to check with your insurer. Please be aware you cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate for the same session.

Do you see NDIS participants?

Yes — we support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants across our disciplines, with fees consistent with the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. Our NDIS fees are itemised in the section above, and our Client Care Team can provide a copy of our full NDIS fee schedule and service agreement.

How long is each session?

Psychology, psychotherapy, and occupational therapy sessions are 60 minutes, and speech pathology sessions are 50 minutes. Longer appointments for intake, assessment, and family sessions are available.

Are your clinicians registered and experienced?

Yes. All of our clinicians are registered or accredited with the relevant regulatory and professional bodies for their discipline — AHPRA for psychologists and occupational therapists, the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) for our Accredited Mental Health Social Workers, and Speech Pathology Australia for our speech pathologists. Our team brings deep collective experience across mental health, trauma, and neurodiversity.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. We offer online sessions Australia-wide for clients who prefer to connect from home, live outside Brisbane, or simply need the flexibility. Medicare rebates apply to telehealth sessions in the same way as in-person appointments. Let us know when you get in touch and we will arrange it.

Where are your clinics?

We have two Brisbane locations — Upper Mount Gravatt (2/21 Mount Gravatt Capalaba Rd) and Auchenflower (37 Bangalla St) — along with telehealth Australia-wide.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Choosing to start therapy is a personal decision. If you are experiencing anxiety, low mood or motivation, relationship or family stress, the effects of trauma, or challenges connected to neurodivergence, therapy can offer meaningful support and guidance. If you are unsure, our Client Care Team is happy to talk it through with you — there is no obligation to book.

What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session is a chance for you and your clinician to get to know each other and talk about what you hope to gain from therapy. The focus is on understanding you — your story, the important people in your life, and the support you are looking for. There is no pressure to share more than you feel ready to.

Do you work with children and families?

Yes. Our team works across the lifespan, with particular depth in supporting children, adolescents, and families. We offer family therapy, parenting support, and child-focused approaches across our disciplines, and we welcome parents and carers as active partners in the process.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. Everything you share with your clinician is confidential, with limited exceptions required by law — for example, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or where records are subpoenaed. Your clinician will explain confidentiality and its limits with you at your first session, and our full privacy policy is available at therapywell.com.au/privacy-policy.
